How to store Arabic perfumes longer and preserve their fragrance
Those who follow our blog have already learned how many olfactory notes are found in a single fragrance. And it is a real shame if all the work of the noses necessary to combine the aromas disappears in a short time because the perfume has not been stored correctly.
Storing a perfume is a good habit that unfortunately many do not have and find themselves with a product that has lost its aroma shortly after purchase and that remains on the skin for a short time. Learning the correct storage of perfumes is, therefore, important to preserve their quality, aroma and duration over time.
Correct storage of fragrances: why it is important
If perfumes are stored well, their strength and intensity are maintained for a longer period of time. This is because correct storage favors the intact maintenance of the molecules that make up the fragrance and, consequently, the original aroma that you fell in love with is preserved.
The sensory experience will remain high and you will be able to enjoy a perfume in full of its aromatic notes and olfactory nuances that make up the Arabic fragrance.
If, however, perfumes are stored badly, the fragrance is altered and undergoes obvious changes in its composition and in its original aroma. Some perfumes oxidize because they have been exposed to air, favoring the contact of the aromatic molecules with oxygen, which react and undergo chemical changes.
Other perfumes, however, evaporate, losing in terms of strength and intensity. The consequence is that the top notes vanish more quickly, even if the heart and base notes are still preserved but you have to wait a little longer to smell them.
Or you can experience an alteration of the smell. The aromatic notes that characterize its original composition are less defined, they mix together, until they create a character that is no longer pleasant.
And also an alteration of the color and consistency. It could happen, in fact, that a perfume may not be used for a long time, perhaps because you prefer to wear it only on special occasions. And, in this case, we often wonder whether the perfume has maintained its intensity and fragrance intact.
After smelling the perfume to note any changes in the olfactory notes perceived upon purchase, we then move on to visual observation, which allows us to understand whether the perfume has been preserved correctly and can last a long time. If the color of the perfume has changed, if it is darker and denser, it means that the perfume has undergone alterations and has lost its characteristic notes.
Preserving the fragrance of Arabic perfumes: here's how to do it
To preserve a perfume in its initial conditions and not alter its quality, the first thing to do immediately after purchase is to make sure that it is not exposed to light and that the ideal temperature is respected. Light and temperature are two important factors because they can greatly favor the long duration of the fragrance or cause it to disperse in a short time, if used incorrectly.
Perfumes should never be exposed to direct sunlight because light and heat can alter their chemical composition. Just as they should not be subjected to sudden changes in temperature and humidity, as happens in the bathroom at home, or near doors and windows. Humidity can also degrade the quality of the perfume. It is better to store perfumes in the dark, for example in the wardrobe in the bedroom or in a drawer, or in their original packaging, because they are made with the aim of protecting the product from light and air. Furthermore, the ideal temperature for perfumes is that of cool and dry places, between 15°C and 20°C.
Other tips for preserving the fragrance of perfumes concern the methods of use. For too many years, consumers have believed that it was right to shake the perfume before use. But nothing is more wrong. To make their fragrance last longer, perfumes must remain as they were created, they should never be shaken, and only in this way can they maintain their uniformity. Shaking the bottle incorporates air, and the presence of air accelerates the breakdown of the olfactory pyramid.
After use, then, you must be careful to close the cap well. Even in this case, in fact, the correct closure of the bottle reduces exposure to air and prevents the oxidation of the fragrance.
Another bad habit, which is linked to the issue of temperature and light, is to place perfumes on shelves, to show off the beauty of their bottles. But since hot air tends to rise, perfume bottles exposed to light and placed on high shelves and racks will experience a change in fragrance. It is preferable to display perfume bottles inside a small display case with an opening, so as to keep your collection of Arabic perfumes away from light, heat and even shocks.
How long do opened perfumes last?
At this point, the only question left to ask is how long perfumes last, even after having stored them correctly and put into practice all the advice to make their fragrance last longer.
Generally speaking, perfumes last about 2 years, especially when they are made with natural ingredients. But learning to store them well allows you to increase their duration and preserve their olfactory notes. Furthermore, the advice is to buy smaller packages of perfumes that you do not think you will use on a daily basis, that is, those perfumes that you love so much that you want to wear them only on the most special occasions, and to prefer larger bottles for fragrances that you wear every day or very often.
